[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This buck is part of a herd that was bred up from young ones captured from the wild. He lives at the incredibly beautiful Deer Park Heights overlooking Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown, New Zealand. This was a site for several Lord of the Rings film locations.

About Himalayan Thar
The Himalayan Thar (a large goat-like animal) were released into the Southern Alps New Zealand by the Government in 1904 to provide for recreational hunting. These animals quickly adapted to the alpine environment in New Zealand as they found it to be like their original home in Nepal.

Since their introduction, Thar have colonised alpine areas in most of Canterbury and the West Coast, and a small part of Otago. Their range includes three national parks and other conservation lands that fall within the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area as well as over large tracts of private land.

Habits of the Himalayan Thar

Most active during the early morning and late afternoon, Himalayan thars spend the middle of the day resting among rocks and vegetation.
Very shy and wary, they are difficult to approach, especially from downhill. When startled, they flee with confidence, speeding sure-footedly across the uneven terrain of their habitat. The Himalayan thar may migrate down the mountain during the winter, resting in denser cover at lower altitudes as protection from the elements.

Intresting animal Jennifer , the note is very informative. the image is well seen the dry grass is a little light but could be darkened down selectivly with the burntool set on low and using a soft edged brush. TFS Robert

Very pretty animal, I've never heard or seen of it before. Wonderful mane, and colourful horns! You have composed the picture very nicely--he doesn't seem to mind your presence at all. Great job! Very interesting notes. Thanks!

What a magnificent animal, Jennifer. Thanks for sharing. I have never even heard of a thar. I love the colorful stripes on his face. Very sharp details on the buck. Good job!

Sharp details, good colors, great POV & DOF and very well composed. This is very good Jennifer. Parts of the grass are really light, but there's nothing you could do about that I guess. A very nice picture of a very special place. Did you enjoy your trip to NZ? TFS!

We introduced a couple of them in the Table mountain area. They have grown to such a large herd that it's becomming a problem. Very nice shot, great POV and details Very well done.
