[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
HERE IS THE FIRST PHOTO OF A SERIES TAKEN AT THE GROUNDS OF SOUTHWELL SCHOOL HAMILTON NZ WHERE I WORK AS A CHEF.
HERE IS LEATHER LEAF FERN (PYRROSIA ELEAGNIFOLIA)ARISING FROM A NETWORK OF STEMS ATTACHED TO THE BRANCH OF THIS TREE.
THIS FERN IS WIDESPREAD THROUGHOUT NEW ZEALAND FORESTS ,MOUNTAINS AND COASTAL AREAS .
THE FRONDS ARE UNDIVIDED,FLESHY AND SMOOTH MARGINED,FROM ALMOST ROUND TO ELONGATE,DENSELY COVERED WITH STELLATE HAIRS ON THE UNDERSIDES.
THE SLENDER STEMS ARE FREELY BRANCHED AND SPREAD WIDELY OVER TREE TRUNKS AND BRANCHES.
THE DOME LIKE SORI OFTEN LARGELY COVER THE UNDERSIDES OF THE LEAFS.
WATER IS STORED IN THE FLESHY LEAVES AND THE REDUCTION OF EVAPORATION BY THE COVERING OF HAIRSMAKING THIS FERN VERY TOLERANT TO DROUGHT .

Very interesting growth on the tree Gareth. I have seen some lately that are drying up, but no doubt conserving water as it is very dry here. We've had no real rain (in Akld) for a couple of months now. Have you photographed them up closer, so we can see more of them? Thanks for confirming the name of this plant too as I have some photos and had been reading up about them. Good shot and thank you for sharing.

I to are surprised to see them so green nice big display I two would probably have moved in closer, Thanks for showing.
