part 3. Treking nature from our school

Southwell is a particularly attractive school. It occupies a beautiful site which is the Homestead of Woodend Estate near central Hamilton. In all there are about 30 acres of land laid out in a very attractive combination of excellent playing fields, exotic trees and four acres of native bush which have been surveyed and registered as a native reserve.

This photo shows just some of the cool native trees i see each day im at work .once swamp land the old Kahikatea's (white pine,Dacrycarpus dacrydioides, Podocarpaceae)still remain .In this photo the two stand out tress for me are left cabbage tree or Ti kauka (cordyline australis) and to the right the Rimu (Dacrydium cupressinum)

What a beautiful Native NZ bush Gareth. I love that Rimu tree, they are so attractive. And I see the tree fern, is it the Silver fern or one of the others. It must be quite old - it is quite tall. And theres a young one growing too between the Cordyline and Rimu. I wish I was closer. Keep posting...
