Fernz Fernery

One of the things I love about New Zealand is its lush greenery and the many native bush and forests that can often be seen throughout the country.

And I also love the look of our ferns as they start to die off. This is a dying Silver Fern, the most well-known tree fern in NZ. See, even in death there is beauty.

This Fernz Fernery is at the Auckland Domain, itself another extinct Auckland volcano, and once a scoria quarr. It is now a luxuriant green glade that displays more than 100 varieties of ferns and other native plants that are found in New Zealand.

This Fernz Fernery shows a very small example of some of the ferns, palms and other plants that are native to NZ, particularly in the North Island. It is like a secret garden, surrounded by ferns of all sizes, with the sound of water and filtered daylight.

And we do have quite a few native ferns in NZ…

Hi Janice!

Even death can be beautiful... Thank you to remember us this evidence with your notes and this marvellous picture. I appreciate the unity of the color tones very much. The vertical and horizontal alignment, underlined by the blurred background, create a delicate artistic composition.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Janice,
I love your ferns :)! You always present us some good quality pictures with very nice details. I love those golden tones of colors a lot and dark background that makes your subject stands out so well! Thanks,
Claudine

This is a good documentary image but, more important, it is an outstanding photograph! Everything about it is good... composition, color, exposure, use of offset positioning and sharpness. Your solid black background makes the image stand out! Nice job.

Kudos to you.

I like the golden colours against the dark background TFS.

Hello Janice!
This is a very artistic picture! I like natural colours of this dead plant. You showed something "normal" is very unique way! :)
Details, sharpness and - my favourite: light, arevery good and add a lot of "climat" to this picture :)
All the best from Lodz!
Radomir
