This is another photo taken from Whatipu see my previous panoramic photos for more information about this location.

I have been trying to capture a panoramic seascape using the light from the setting sun and including the sun. As you can imagine the exposure for the Sky (1/10) is considerably different from what was needed for the land (1/60) This photo was made up from 6 images 3 exposed for the sky and 3 exposed for the land then combined manually and then stitched together using software.

Its a little to dark for my liking but the weather gods and tides have been against me since so have not been able to try again. Those dark clouds were filled with water that the weather gods shared with me on my 2km walk back to my car :)

Been a large posting click on the image again to see full size.

Hi Clive!

You have made a great job, Clive, and from my point of view it isn't too dark. It's a fascinating picture, and I admire the technique. But there's a little "but": one can feel, when looking at the picture intensively, that there's something strange, somehow not natural, without being able exactly to say what. It's probably the lighting of the foreground that gives this artificial aspect. But this does not affect the quality and the beauty of the whole picture.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi clive

I think you've done a great job stiching these images together to give a view of this great curving coastline. I particularly like the dune grasses and dark clouds, but the who;e scene is quite ethereal.

Well done

Chris

Hello Clive! Wonderful panorama. Amazing seascape. Wonderful picture. Good luck!

Hi Clive,

Very interesting post - really nice panorama, I can tell it took a lot of effort to get and put together this, I think it's worth your efforts (and the rain!) :-)

I do agree with Markus though, there is something a little unusual about the whole affect - I think it in ways looks more like a painting than a photograph...

But I like paintings too so that's not a criticism, unusual is good. Great work.

TFS, Doug

Hi Clive,

Good panorama shot with beautiful colours and pov.

Regards Gert

Hello Clive,
You done a great job once again on the perfect 3 by 3 stitiching!
I was at the very point with my Canadian friend to have the sunset captured, but failed due to the thickness of the black cloud to prevent the light penetrate through it!
you had a excellent light here with a good clouds just above the horizon!
well done, Clive!
many thanks for sharing this!
Tony

Hi Clive

what a stunning landscape composition you have here. It is a touch dark as you say, but you have to work with what is there, as you know. great work.

Hi Clive,
Stunning landscape with good technical handling of multiple image blending. Love this place and you have caught the mood of the place well. This one would look good printed large :o). I have had a go a a workshop on the image. Changes are very subtle, so I hope they display okay and you are okay with me doing this.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Clive!

Perfect stitching, never thought of doing it like this, exposing the land and sky apart! Very good idea.
The result is beautiful, the composition and sharpness are great! TFS and for the idea :)

Best regards,
Andor

Hi Clive,

I find this a very successful panoramaphoto. Dramatic with the dark clouds. But the sunset is marvelous. The reflection of the sun into the water is beautiful. The contrast between the grey sand, green dunes, sea and sky is wonderful. You did a great job, in spite of that you have got wet on your 2 km walk back to your car. Have a nice day and TFS BOB

Hi Clive,
I'm glad I looked through the forum. It directed me to this stunner. Reading your note, I would have known that this is a HDR photo. The result looks very natural and pure. I like the dark mood because it allows even more focus on the sunlight reflected of the water. The empty feel to this photo is awesome.
TFS,
Niek
