Lophomyrtus bullata.
Ramarama (Maori) Rah-mah-rah-mah.

This Ramarama plant is a native to New Zealand. It used to be called LOPHOMYRTUS AOTEAROANA, but that name is now considered to be illegal! The correct scientific name for RAMARAMA is LOPHOMYRTUS BULLATA.

I think it is quite an attractive plant with its shiny puckered dark green with red blotched leaves.

Ramarama is a slender shrub and is easily recognised by its small ovate shiny blistered green-reddish-coloured leaves. Its colours intensify in winter. It can grow up to 6 metres in height, with a thin trunk up to 10cm through. Its bark is pale grey-green and very smooth. Its flowers are white with a fluffy appearance and are followed by red, edible fruits.

It is very common in lowland and coastal forests in the top of the South Island and throughout the North Island of New Zealand.

Hi Janice, great Maori name! Here in Poland we've got margarine called Rama ;-) Very nice picture, I like shinning skin of leaves and theirs different green tones. Composition is good with black BG and plants emerging from space. Good work Janice!
