Important Facts To Know About Bumble Bees.

• Because they live in small nests bumble bees never swarm - so you can encourage a nest or two in the garden without fear of this happening.

• Bumble bees do not produce enough honey for commercial use, just a few grams at a time to feed their young.

• Not all bumble bees have a sting. Drones (smaller male bees that hatch in mid summer) have no sting at all.

• A bumble bees biggest enemy by far is a man armed with a pesticide spray. Like every other form of wildlife they are under serious threat from the chemicals we pour on the land.

• Bumble bees are much less aggressive than honey bees. Generally they will not attack a human at all, unless their life is under threat. Don't wave your arms wildly in their presence, stand quietly and once they smell you are not a flower with pollen they will move gently away.

• Bumble bees do not lose their sting and die if they use it, as a honey bee will.

• Encourage the bumble bee in your garden or farm and she will repay your kindness by pollinating your flowers, fruit and vegetables and giving you an excellent set on your blossom.

Hi Janice, A very sharp and well coloured photo of the bumble bee on this colourful flower. I like this POV and clarity a lot. Your notes are good and i recall, the bumble bee cannot fly using normal aeronautical calculations of wing size, weight etc. Fortunately no body has informed these bees so of course they do fly well! Hi Janice,

What a truly wonderful composition, the colours are just outstanding; the detail is superb, really well framed and composed, lovely work,

Cheers Rick :)

It's 8:20 in the morn here, Janice, so a Good Morning to you!I am proud to be your neighbour today...
The water lily or Lotus as we call it here, is sacred to Hindus, Janice...It is the seat of many a God of this religion, as a matter of fact, I can hardly imagine any of the Hindu Gods without this flower either as a seat or in some form around the God.It is also the symbol of the largest right wing political party in India, a party some associate with Hindu fundamentalism.
You've brought out such beautiful and delicate details here, Janice. The flower seems to be magical, the lighting very mysterious, yet you bring out the exquisite beauty of this flower. And it looks like the flower has some power that's giving life to the bumble bee and the fly.
This is truly an amazing shot, and as I keep saying, I feel very small in creation. As the song-writer says, "How great Thou art!"
Thank you for this wonderful shot you've shared!
Sincerely,
Goldy

Hello Janice. Beautiful glow inside the flower. I like the detail of the stamen and that deadly wasp just adds icing to this beautiful presentation. Best regards. Jusni

Hi Janice it's that great contrast you have in this shot, along with the rich colours that really make it stand out. The details seen on the flower are excellent. To put it then in a large square format really helps show it off. Very nice.

Thanks, John

Very nice! I love the rich colours, the sharpness, the textures and the superb composition. Did I mention I love the colours? An extremely eye-catching image.

Hi Janice

I had a bit of an ordeal at the dentist today so forgive me if I might be a bit abrupt.

WOW - Sheer beauty – from A to Z and Z to A. The flower, the bee, the colours, the detail, the composition, it all culminates into a fine presentation that "screams" out with visual impact. Sorry my eyes are too dim to see (or appraise) much about the fly though (chuckle). The darkish BG makes this "light emitting" lotus flower seem even brighter.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Janice,
A superb portrait of a bumble bee at the centre of a gorgeous lilly flower that frames it beautifully. I like the POV and the composition is great.
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

WOW Janice, Amazing colors!
The POV is perfect for this, and the two insects add to the overall comp well..The second smaller insect almost looks like it could be a small robberfly - Just beautiful!

Hallo Janice
First of all it is a great capture in all aspects. Splendid image with great clearness and wonderful details. I give to you the well deserved smiley. A very interesting post indeed, and this insect's is gorgeous. Great macro! Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing. The combination of orange, lilac and turmeric is a great combination and compliments each other well also emphasising the details of this insect to a great degree.
Kind regards
Anna

Great colors on the lily. Great capture of the bee.
