Another shot taken on my bushwalk yesterday.
I believe these are younger specimens of the Armillaria I posted last night.
This mushroom can be extremely varied in terms of appearance, depending on where it is ound growing.
In drier pine forests it can have a dry whitish cap,and a very robust stipe and thick meaty flesh.
In damp shady rainforest it can be very fragile, wet and slimy, and range from yellow brown in colour, through grey brown,to quite dark brown, especially as it ages.
Here is further info from 'The Hidden Forest'

Species: Armillaria novae-zelandiae Stevenson.

Substrate: Wood
Height: 150 mm
Width: 50 mm
Season: Autumn
Edible: Unknown
Spore: White

Taken hand held,f/8,ISO 200
Thanks for looking.

Great shot Steve, you must've got dirty getting this POV. Composition is very good too, with the Mushroom well placed on the left and using the log to create depth towards the back. Well seen image..keep expecting something to spring out of that hole there!
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Steve,
Absolutely great exposure, compo, POV and natural colors. Your aboriginal Armillaria seems like a very photogenic specie - at least this image's very pleasant to the eyes. Tfs.
Best wishes, László

Hi Steve
A good POV although a bit lower and you would have been able to include a little gill detail which is helpful (although not final) in identification. You have a good composition although a crop from the left to remove the white area in the top left would help as I find that drags the eye away from your subject a little. I would also crop some of the heavy dark area at the bottom for a similar reason. I couldn't tell from your image whether or not the stalks continued into the dark area or whether the fungi was attached to the wood at that point so I did a workshop and played with the shadows/highlights - see the resulting workshop. I also used the dodge tool to lessen the harshness of the shadows on the caps of the two shorter fungi. Altering the highlights also helped bring more detail to the burnt out white area on the peak of the cap on the middle fungus. Gosh, all that sounds really niggly; it is a good shot, appears to have sufficient DOF and sharpness. Just those few minor tweaks and the image (at least in my opinion) is that little better.
Cheers
Elizabeth

I would choose elizabeth WS for a mushroom guide, and you version for an artistic print, I like them both.
The WS is more descriptive but original keeps the natural mooody atmosphere that your exposure captured so well.
Thanks and regards, Felipe.

Hello Steve,

A very nice low POV. You know I like this kind of POV's. Nice the difference in light between the FG and BG. Sharp and natural colors. I like this compo.

Hi Steve,
I have fallen in love with wild fungus ever since i have got to see these beautiful creation of nature presented by some of you here in TN.And i think that is the beauty of being part of this special group.

This is yet another treasure you managed to bring back from your walk..fine image with nice PoV that present wonderful details rich with colours and content. This was certainly not another easy one to catch with right DoF,exposure etc...for that matter, i dont think any of the fungi shots are easy as you would want to give the right perspective and the would always have to work hard to get that one right shot.Well done...Steve and thanks for sharing :)

Cheers
P.S:Many thanks for your recent visit to my gallery and your kind words.I appreciate this.
