Mothers, fathers and baby Gannets live very precariously on the cliff at the Muriwai Gannet Colony.

Baby Gannet on the right had been looking on very patiently at Ma and Pa (to his left) while they had been preening each other, giving each other a special loving and affectionate touches. 30 seconds later one of the pair flew off and then baby demanded the other one to feed him.

It was so cute watching the 3 of them together, and at the same time, all around them were many, many other gannets, old and young ones. They live so close together, yet seem to ignore what’s going on around them – they only have eyes for their family.

I wonder how many babies fall of these steep cliffs. They all seem to live there so happily and as long as baby is fed it just seems to stay in the same spot.

Enjoy. . .

Hi Janice,
Very good capture of my favourite sea birds. Excellent display of family life on cliffs. Very good composition and POV, sharp details and nice BG. Harsh sunlight has slightly burned some white details.

Hello Janice,
A fine Gannet family scene with mutual preening and well-fed chicks. You managed the light of the harsh contrast of the white gannets with the dark BG well and the composition is pleasing.
TFS this delight,
Ivan

Nice shot of these gannets on the cliff, I hope they do not fall off. Good picture and interesting note, thank you.

Hi Janice.
It is a lovely picture of them all going about their own business. The chicks are just as big as the parent birds, all that fat and fluff. Lovely image.

Hard image to get Janice...that white looks like it was difficult in the straight on sun..fine overall portrait. I notice a tendency for you to post more now that your spring is on its way...Looking forward to your fun shots while it snows here...still a ways down the road but drawing ever closer.

Hi, having lived in Auckland and watching these amazing birds feeding, which is a sight to see, I must say, I have an appreciation for them. It is awesome to see them in this setting. Its a lovely shot.

Hello Janice,

A lovely composition of these Gannets at Muriwai. I was also overthere in 2005 and make a lot of photo's, but not that nice close up you has presented. And mostly one of the parents is not by the nest. Mostly is one of them fishing. I like the little ones with the hairy body. Good compo.

Thanks for sharing and TFS BOB
