Now this isnt the most attractive photo, but I wanted to add it from a point of interest. A few weeks back, we had a big storm system hit Greymouth. In cobden where this photo was taken, roofs and power lines came down, and the power of nature was actually terrifying.
I went down to the Cobden tiphead the morning of this storm. i had no idea of what was to come, or may have been happening to homes in Cobden as I took these photos. To be honest as I sat in the car and the winds hit, I did think i was crazy to be there. What made me stay was a fascination with what I was seeing out to sea. I was watching waterspouts try to form. This shot is one that was a little too close for comfort. You can see the water being drawn up, it was an amazing thing to see. A friend who was down there told me a water spout formed in the Grey river just moments after I left, I had hoped to get a shot of one and sadly just missed out. So here is a glimpse of what I saw that day.

Hi Nick,

What an opportunity to see nature playing up like this. Thanks for sharing. Things like this make one humble.

Hi Nicki.
Great that you have shown it with a dark background as it really shows how much water is being lifted, nicely exposed with good detail.

After braving this much, sorry you missed what you were waiting for.

Wow! That looks so interesting Nicki - you were at the right spot and the right time - but still it could have been dangerous for you.

Hi Nicki,
You got some pretty amazing water photos in your gallery. It seems that you are in great balance with the water. The effect of this small tornado is ofcourse very interesting and you made it in something beautiful. It looks like you had to work hard on the light to get good details...some noise is visable.

Niek

Hi Nicki,
I just missed a shot like this recently when I was on the way up Mt George.
Always a bit scary when they're close by.
Great capture.
Cheers
Steve
