Beech Forest Fungi
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a fungus found in the beech forests of the South Island.Paxillus aurantiacus. As yet I am unfamiliar with many of the unusual fungi found in the beech forests, but many of them have very striking colours and patterns.
The beech forests, with their thick carpets of beech litter have entirely different species to those that I am used to seeing in the podocarp/broadleaf forests of the North Island.
There seem to be a lot more fungi in these beech forests than I ever saw up north, with a few notable exceptions.
So far I have seen no Favolashia of any kind...fungi which are very common up north,at least on Mt Pirongia. |

Interesting fungi!!!Looks like flower!Good composition.
This unusual fungus certainly deserves its centered composition Steve. The depth of field is very narrow, which works. It might be fun to try one with a wider dof to get the whole shroom. Lovely tones and colors here.

Weird shapes and textures Steve. DOF slightly too shallow but subject very interesting. Another beautifull fungus from your paradise island ;-)
No challenge with this, Paxillus aurantiacus which are mycorrhizal with the beech. Not difficult to id with its brown spores and decurent gills. I think I would have preferred more DOF.

What a beautiful Paxillus aurantiacus ! I never see in France. Perhaps more DOF, but it is an interesting composition for the TN fungi collection...
