One of the highlights of my recent trek across the Paparoa range was discovering the wonderful diversity of strange plants on the alpine ridges.
Miniature landscapes like this covered the mountaintops, and one could lie down and marvel for ages over just a small patch of these alpine meadows.
Here we see the sticky arms of carnivorous Alpine Sundews (Drosera arcturi) protruding from a bed of mosses, lichens and liverworts.
The whitish lacy looking lichen in the foreground is most likely Cladia retipora.
Even after a few days without rain, the exposed mountain ridges were still damp, being shrouded in cloud or mist for much of the time.

Shooting into the light,to get a nice backlit effect,I got a bit of lens flare, which I have cloned out as best I can.
I hope you like this image from our alpine meadows.

Thanks for looking.
Steve

Wow, this a microcosm unto itself, Steve!
The image is very natural with the right amount of light to maintain the ambience. Those wild plants and flowers look very beautiful.

Hello Steve !
You really have some strange plants down there in New Zealand - makes my own little France look so boring ! :-) Really, this thing is amazing, I love its shape, and I also love the green moss all around, and the orange carnivorous plant... It's great to see such miniature landscapes, really ! Thanks for sharing your treasures with us !
Valérie.

Hi Steve

I like this "micro-world" very much. It evokes the impression of diving into a minature world of a special kind. Moreover, the colours are pleasant and the details, especially of the ornage plant on the left, are superb. Your picture invites for dreaming...

Kind regards

Markus
