What an interesting bird, I've never seen or heard of it before, so your note and photo are wonderful. The colors are so sharp and clear, the focus great, well done. Thanks for educating me about this creature!

This is an early chick isn't it Pam? Don't they know that it is only winter? Lovely mother-child shot, very beautiful to see. The chick looks as big as mama's foot too. Well done, thank you.

They look very similar to our Moorhens, of which I have loads of shots, but none as good as this....Top Marks!

The size of the feet in relation to body size is quite odd. I've always liked these swamphens and you've caught the mother-child action nicely.
Asmall nit, I would have cloned out the post in the background.

Very touching photo, Pam.
Excellent composition and detail.
What big feet indeed!!
It has impacted me very much since joining TN, the realization, that all species nurture their young and take such care in the upbringing and teaching of life skills that pertain to their specific needs.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo with us.

A really great capture here.
Everything is just spot on.reat colour, focus and lighting. As Pieter says, the only thing wrong is the season.I know what you mean about confused plants and animals though.Theres a lot of Kowhai in flower down here too.
