New Zealand edelweiss:
New Zealand edelweiss is probably the most characteristic, abundant and widespread of all the alpine rock dwellers. North Island edelweiss (Leucogenes leontopodium) occurs from Mt Hikurangi down to the northern South Island. South Island edelweiss (Leucogenes grandiceps) is found throughout the South Island and on Stewart Island. Their strong resemblance to the famous Swiss edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) is more than skin deep – despite growing on opposite sides of the earth, all these edelweiss species are botanically related.

South Island edelweiss:
South Island edelweiss (Leucogenes grandiceps) is one of four species of native edelweiss, all found in alpine habitats. Their common name derives from the close similarity of their flowers to those of the European edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum). They all have yellow-brown disc florets surrounded by woolly white bracts.

This is another shot that I took walking the Croesus Track over the Paparoa range with my son Aqua.
Hope you like it.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
another interesting and exciting shot of the flower and the lone ant.
Beautiful composition with the nice colours depicting the beauty of this special specie.
