This is a male Peafowl – beautiful isn’t he?

The male peafowl is called a peacock, the female a peahen.

The term peafowl can refer to any of three species of bird in the genera Pavo and Afropavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae. They are most notable for the male's extravagant tail, which it displays as part of courtship.

The three species are:
Indian Peafowl, Pavo cristatus (Asiatic) which this peacock is.
Green Peafowl, Pavo muticus (Asiatic)
Congo Peafowl, Afropavo congolensis (African)

Hi Janice,
really beautiful. The dense and rich colours are indeed very lovely. The muted background also i very effective in giving this guy a lovely look.
Lovely cropping too to focus on the head and neck.

Correction. He is a blue boy. That was a painting of course. Yours is a photo. Wonderful sheen to the color. Continue to have a nice fall.

I have been absent from the site for a while and missed some lovely postings. I am glad to lay my eyes on some great images, this one of yours being one.. This is indeed a spectacular bird with lovely colours and features. At the bird park where Werner and Naomi got married there were about 3 of these beauties wandering freely around the area. They are indeed beautiful, and especially in the sunlight the colours of their plumage shine and display so beautifully. I love the point of view, with the bird facing you directly. The white markings on the face against the royal blue are a delight to look at. An almost royal presentation. Thanks for sharing. I’ll also be back soon with my 50th posting.
