[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Once again,we are in the mixed broadleaf/podocarp/Nothofagus forest on the plateau above the Arnold River power station.
At places around the edge of the plateau,the wind has taken out large patches of trees,and left clearings full of broken rotting branches .... perfect mushroom country.
At this location grow masses of yellow/orange Hyrocybe in large colonies.This is also the home of those beautiful bright blue mushrooms,Entoloma hochstetteri.
In the autumn months between March and June,especially after very cold nights and clear days,hundreds of species of many different colours spring up all over the Arnold River plateau.
These yellow Hygrocybe are among the most common.
Its very hard to pin them down to an exact ID with out examining the spores with a microscope.
There are quite a few of these yellow Hygrocybe that are quite similar.
This shot is taken looking out towards the edge of the plateau,and the dam below can be seen from a lookout in that direction.
In the other direction the forest is thick and dark,with tree trunks covered in a black mold that looks like chimney soot.

Hello Steve,
Tilting the image makes the composition more interesting but these Hygrocybi fungi are attractive anyway, taken from a fine low POV on the Nothofagus forest floor with striking contrast.

I wonder if this shot will look different with Lomo camera :-)

Superb low pov with shallow focus for that dreamy effect. Excellent tilt framing for pleasing effect.

Hi Steve!

Yellow [or orange] twins from microforest. I like composition with other fungi in BG and diagonal horizon line. Yes I know, you had to be tired :-) As always great promotional picture of NZ's bush.

Steve do these start life as bright orange fungi and then slowly go yellow? The orange only evident in the gills once they have turned yellow

Wow a year has flown by since I was there shooting fungi, its been a good year though for me. As I said very busy at the moment, by its good to see you back here. These guys bring back fond memories, I must do it again sometime.
