Favolaschia calocera

These beautiful orange fungi are Favolaschia calocera, which are believed to have arrived in New Zealand from Australia a few decades ago.
New Zealand has its own native species, Favolaschioa pustulosa, which is pure white, and grows larger than these, and in more irregular shapes, sometimes appearing quite frilly and ornate.
I'll post a pustulosa later, but in the meantime, if you search for Favolaschia pustulosa, you'll find some of my earlier photos of these white beauties.

My favourite fungus for sure. Looks like you've got plenty of these fungi. Very nice diagonal composition, I like dark colours with orange spots. Another fantastic place.

this appeals to me for the colour and shapes...and the diagonal composition
must keep a look out here for unusual fungi..most ones i see are in the garden or near a pathway in woods and moors..
