Norfolk Island Pine
Araucaria Heterophylla

I love the shape of these trees, and looking up at this one while I was taking the photo, I could see the top and it reminded me of a star – the Christmas Star

This is for you Loot, who is at home recovering from his knee operation. I know that he checks up on us every now and then, so here’s to you my friend. I pray for a speedy recovery for you, and I know we all look forward to having you back with us soon…

The Norfolk Island Pine, while not a true pine, really is an evergreen tree and it does come from Norfolk Island.

Norfolk Island Is island in the South Pacific located south of New Caledonia and east of Australia in the southern Pacific Ocean.

The Norfolk Pine is quite beautiful and the foliage has a soft texture. Growing very upright, the tree forms a very symmetrical pyramid, with branches emerging from the trunk in a regular and precise pattern.

The Norfolk Island pine is a forest giant that can reach heights of 200 ft (61 m). In NZ most specimens are around 50 -100 ft (15.2 - 30.5 m) tall.

Bonjour Janice!

Je vien de comprendre le pourquoi on pose une étoile sur notre arbre à Noel.
Merci!

Hello Janice!
Looking at the star on the top of the tree first I thought it was a fruit of gardener's work. Then I looked at the star below, then at another one and realized it was nature's creation which you spotted and decided to share with us. Thank you!
Mark

A christmas tree just for the taking, wow, never saw this before, amazing.
Great shot you took here, like the POV.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Greetings, Nel

Hi Janice,
I would say you have found the perfect Christmas tree! Excellent colors and detail. The blue sky backround really shows this off.

Way to go Janice,
WE call this tree "ARACAYA"
In all my life, &, I'm an older person, I've NEVER seen
a photo of plain tree, so common in my wife's home town of Terceira,Azores, look so MAJESTIC.
It is a real work of art, this photo you've posted.
We have been to NZ often; hope we meet on our next trip.

Hi Janice
I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends here at TN. Thanks so much for thinking of me and by showing it through this beautiful gesture.
You really gave the Norfolk Pine a totally new meaning to me. I have looked upon such tree so often over many years, as I have one in my garden, but never has it dawned on me or did I notice this star arrangement in its branches. Very well spotted and captured and thanks for sharing it with us.
God bless you my friend.
Regards
Loot

Hi Janice,
I nice dedication and a really unusual image. Looking at the thumbnail I though it was a wire star on top of the tree. Good shot, great detail and well exposed against a bright BG. As always an educational note, I'm sure Loot will enjoy this one.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Janice
Good shot. Good POC, colours, sharpnes and DOF. You right its look like a Christmas Star from this POV.
Well done Janice

Hello Janice
Your Norfolk Island Pine has a nice symmetrical shape to it. The shape of the branches near the top really are star shaped. I hope Loot likes your stars.
Your lucky to have such a beautiful tree grow wild in New Zealand. In Canada we can only grow them as houseplants.
TFS Janice

Appropriate point of view for this tree. Great shot and nice thoughts for Loot. Thank you, Janice.

Je crois qu'il n'y a que Janice pour réaliser une telle photo. C'est seulement le sommet d'un arbre, mais elle y a vu une étoile. Magnifique observaion et belle marque de générosité.
Merci Janice.

Hi Janice,
with superb point of view and clear composition you have created a fascinating image that can go for a strictly abstract painting. Very powerful!
Thank you, and best regards,
Peter
