Tree with No Name

I don’t know the name of this tree I found growing in Cornwall Park, Auckland. But when I walked under it, I just knew I had to photograph it. I was captured by the colour of the leaves with the sun shining through them and I especially loved the dark trunk and branches. All I have done to the original photo is to sharpen it one ‘sharpen’ and put a small frame around it. Each time I tried to enhance the colours it just looked worse. So, here it is free and easy, nearly just as it came.

Cornwall Park is a landscaped park designed for the recreation and enjoyment of all the people of New Zealand. The park is renowned for its landscape design and its wide variety of mature trees. It is centred on a volcanic cone, One Tree Hill, with many interesting geological features. A pre-European Maori fortification (pa) was built on the cone, many features of which can still be seen.

Cornwall Park has tree plantings dating back over the past 150 years. Designed by Austin Strong who intended to protect the natural beauty of the landscape and provide open spaces for passive recreation. Although, it was not until the 1920s that intensive planting of the Park began, the current practice is to follow the aims and objectives of Campbell's intention for the Park and elements of Strong's design features. Each winter replacement stock and new plantings are undertaken by Park staff.

Beautiful Janice! I love pictures of big trees and sky shown through its leaves. Very sunny and calm, great shapes of branches.

Its hard to be absolutely certain without a closer look at the leaves (flowers or seed pods are better) but I think this could be an Ash tree, quite common in England and Europe.
You'll probably want to get a second opinion, but thats my guess. Its the sort of thing you'd be likely to find on ex one tree hill.A lot of old olives near the top too.

Since coming to TN, I have started to love photographing trees myself. This one is a beauty and I like how you have made the tree the entire canopy of the photo, leaving me no opportunity to think of what lay beyond, only satisfied by what I can appreciate. Thank you for this.

Very well seen & nice compostion, but the branches are little underexposed imho.

Nice composition Janice. I'm sorry that I can't help with the tree ID. I like the shot and I think you handled the exposure well. Good work.

Lovely shot Janice. The kind of place you'd want to have a picnic under on a hot summers day. Very well done. Sorry, cant see enough detail to try an ID of the tree.

Janice, well spotted. Very nice composition and good lighting. I usually don't get good bg with these kinds of pictures.

Nice job.
