Oh my God ... did you slaughter me HERE and oh my God were you right! :) I had one more picture of a Weka (a fantastic and lovely flightless bird), but again loads of things were wrong. I spent a lot of time on improving this picture. I cloned out a second bird, cloned out a tire of our campervan, adjusted levels, flipped the image horizonally, adjusted brightness and adjusted contrast. I still think this picture isn't perfect (a little light in the eyes is lacking ...), but what do you think!? Hit me with your fierce criticism. I posted the real image as a workshop, just for your covenience. ;)

The Weka in short:
Latin name: Gallirallus australis
Category: Endemic (only found in New Zealand)
Status: Threatened / Common - rare in the North Island
Size: 53cm
Weight:1000/700 g
Characteristics: flightless, rail, fast runner
Habitat: forest, scrub
Nests: on the ground in short burrows, hollow logs, under plants
Food: worms, snails, insects, seeds, fruit, eggs, small birds, lizards, rats, mice
Lifespan: 15 years

10 points for the pp work Pieter. I'm pleased to see Mr Weka's tail not cropped off:) You were lucky to catch him. I think I saw one on Kawau Island last month - but the camera was too slow (maybe I was too slow!) Thanks for showing him.

Great shot Pieter and good post processing too.
Your shot is well composed and with good feather detail, better than the original.
Good note also.

Good idea to post the original. You really fish for compliments here, Pieter, because I think your PP is very good. Nothing wrong. Your shot shows perfectly this strange bird with all details. Colors come very well on the grey BG.

You've done wonders with this one squire. A lovely Weka pic. I'll be seeing a few of these soon. The town our family is soon moving to is on the west coast near Greymouth.Blackball has Weka in the main street.
Thanx for posting this exceeedingly kool foto.

Good work, Pieter. It seems you can fly easily in post-processing ;-)
Thanks

Looks like Kiwi ;-) I've never saw before one of this genre. Good composition and funny 'kick my ass' pose ;-)

I think it is cute and nice! I know he doesn't live in Poland but I love birds - especialy this which remaind me countryside. Your bird looks very friendly and I feel almost at home of my parents near forest and meadows - in the centre of Poland!

This is well composed with very good sharpness/detail. Nice pose/POV also..You mentioned "a little light in the eyes is lacking". It's fine IMO..You can't always get the perfect amount of light on a subject to get that high level of detail you might like..Hey, you asked! Well done Pieter

Very good shot Pieter.
You have done a good PP.
Good details, composition and colours.
WEll done.

WOW!! Superbe composition et très belle prise de vue. La couleur du gravier au sol c'est fantastique.
FÉLICITATIONS !

Nice shot, light could be better on the bird.
Well done.
TFS.

It looks like a cross between a chicken and a partridge Pieter. Your pp work has made the shot a lot better. Good work

Nice one Pieter, nice pose and good composition. I think you did a good job from the original. Well done.

Hi Pieter
I must say, a worls of difference between the two rails. This one even has a "weka-look" in the eye, ready for mischief.
Well on this one.

Good work all round Pieter the image is well seen and the post work is more than compident, I would of left a little more space behind the tail but that is a minor point.
It is good to see the original image to see where it can from, well rescued

Well I think you've done a good job on the PP and produced a fine shot. Good sharpness and composition. Great job.

Excellent PP work, Pieter. This is far better than the previous one as well. A bit space behind the tail and it would have been perfect. Great shot, well done.

Pieter, colors and sharpness are just perfect here. Excellent pov and dof, as well as composition.

To me, just perfect.

Really fine photo which is both well composed and well executed. The details and colors are wonderful.

You did well indeed Pieter. Sometimes I wonder what we would do if there were no computers with enhancing programs, etc. You obviously know what you are doing in this regard. Thank you for great note and posting.

Excellent shot Pieter.
Impressive details and lighting.
Nice pose!

Excellent work, well done!

Thanks so much. I'm learning such a lot on TN. I looked at both images and am just amazed you can get rid of bits you don't want in the picture as well as flipping the image around. I plan to try out the photo edit program I just got and do some experimenting.

I do like this shot Pieter. Sorry I missed it, but I have found it now. Good POV. Very nice example of our bird. Thanks
