Hi everyone,

Firstly, i just want to say a big thanks to everyone for their fantastic comments and crits and kind words. This place is such a fantastic supportive community, which is such a rare thing these days it seems..
you've all really worked wonders for my confidence, motivation and inspiration, so a big thank you!

for today's post, i have a Straw-Necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis).

I see these guys all the time, but usually early in the mornings when the light isn't good, or when i don't have my camera.

On the weekend, i found a few roaming around an oval near me (Kalinga Park), during the daytime, with nice sunlight, when i had my camera.. woohoo!

I chased this guy round for a few minutes in an attempt to get him in a better position for the photo.
He was NOT cooperating, but i eventually managed to snap one of him in a nicer pose with the sun showing off his colors.

thanks for looking!

Hi Gethin
Awesome photo. I have never seen the colours on the Ibis like this...I had better open my eyes! I like how you have positioned him in the photo...so he has space to walk into!
Cheers
Sue

Hi Gethin, you've nailed the colours on this Straw-necked Ibis, and picked up beautiful sharp clarity throughout, with very good definition of their characteristic plumage and that great eye. Shooting in the full sun like this worked well for the bird. At the same time I think the grass suffered for it, with a little overexposure there. I have heard of one technique using colour burning, so I've gone off to the sandbox to play to see if I could offer you another option with the grass.

Thanks, John

Hi Gethin

Hi Gethin

I have seen loads of these in Australia - but like you say, Usually when I cannot get my camera or the light is bad around sunrise and sunset.

Lovely detail and lovely, low POV. An excellent shot.

Hi Gethin,

I love the stealth like approach to your subjects it worked a treat; amazing colours you've captured here with excellent detail, really good eye catch too. The last time I tried to sneek up on something I got crapped on from a great height by one of these guys :)

Cheers Rick ....

Hello Gethin. Fine looking specimen you captured here. I like the walking pose with superb sharpness and vivid detail. The extra long beak looks awesome with metallic shine on the wings. Good show here and thanks for sharing. Best regards. Jusni
