Red Fungi - Purple Pooh
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
On our walk up to Kakawau Peak the other day,I was just saying to my companion 'Wouldn't it be great to find two different coloured fungi growing together?'
A minute or two later we found this ... just as good I reckon.
Here we have a tiny red fungi (I thought it might be Mycena uru but the stem is thick and white as opposed to thin and dark as it should be) and next to it,a pile of bright purple bird droppings.
Many native New Zealand birds feed exclusively on the berries of podocarps like Miro (Prumnopitys furruginea) and Matai (Prumnopitys taxifolia)and broadleafs such as Pigeonwood (Hdeycarya arborea) which all have (you guessed it) purple berries.
You can see the remnants of seeds in the bird droppings.
I'd say, from the size of them, that they were quite likely droppings of a Kereru, the native wood pigeon.
Needless to say,I was chuffed to find such a colourful little scene to capture along the way.
Hope you like it too.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers

Namastay Steve,
A lovely capture of this beautiful fungi. BTW do you use a tripod or not. If no then you must try to capture these beauties by the help of an tripod. Believe me the results will be stunning. The reason for telling this is I myself will be trying this in this monsoon. As I have seen Felipe's (extramundi) works. Very good composition and fine details. Very colorful indeed. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Sincerely
Hara
