[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of hundreds of Fruit Bats and some flying foxes living at the Sydney Botanical Gardens. We had good luck with blue skies and plenty of bats, but tracking and catching them in flight is easier said than done.

A wonderful day with 4 Nature Trekers sharing some ideas and enjoying the chance to meet, thanks to this site.

Hi Murray,
So you were really quick downloading and posting today's pictures!
Certainly I have found more difficult to catch this bats in flight than the birds, they move so fast and unexpectedly.
This is an excellent pose just before to get the tree.
I like the focus on the head and details on their very particular wings, both on the parts illuminated by the sun and also the ones at shadows with its transparencies.
It was a pleasure to have met and share this day with you all.
Great job and thanks for the post.
JM
PD: May be you should do a drastic crop to the right on the workshop's picture to save it! :-)

Hi Murray.
What an excellent in-flight picture of the cute animal. POV is selected greatly. Pictured view is amazing and shot is composed excellently. I like your choice of ISO and other exposure parameters. Well done and TFS. Thanks for WS too.
My compliments.
Alexei.

Hi Murray,

Nice work mate, it was an absolute pleasure to meet both you and Jose, wonderful shot with good colour saturation, nice eye catch, really well done, all the best,

Cheers Rick :)

Hi Murray,

Very nice shot of this Flying Fox, with perfect positioning, coming in for his landing on that branch. Your exposure, focus and timing is spot on, providing excellent detail on this guy with a great capture of that eye. That blue sky makes a very nice backdrop for your shot. Very nicely presented.

I'm going to lose my internet real soon now, so the next time you hear from me, I hope to be resettled. We've had a great time in Australia, it was good to get together with you guys (yourself, Rick, and Jose) for one final round of shots.

Cheers, John

Hi Murray,
Fabolous action shot. Crystal clear sharpness on the animal, nice natural colors, beautiful contrast between the fox and the sky. This is really difficult to capture, but You did the job quite well. I'm wondered why Your 'flying fox series' received so few comments.
A very minor negative thing: sky became a little (but very little) bit grainy. I'm not sure if I'm in a position to give advices, because You're better photographer than I, but if You use gaussian blur selectively to the sky, in small dose, there won't be any visible grain at all (if noise reduction isn't enough).
Tfs this wonderful shot, have a nice Sunday, László from Hungary
