[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Rockwarbler (Origma solitaria) which I captured on a hike in the lower Blue Mountains NP. This species is endemic to the Sydney region, only being found within 200 km of Sydney, so it’s highly restricted and a habitat specialist. They are only found around gorges with eucalypt forests on Tertiary sandstones and associated limestones. They are not rare and there is plenty of access to their preferred habitat, but the steep nature of the gorges and their habit of foraging near the edge of cliff faces make photographing this species difficult. Here I was lucky and one hopped across a track into a pool of light as I was descending into gorge. I only got one shot and this is it.
They prey primarily on terrestrial insects and forage almost exclusively on the ground; it is rare to find them perched in a tree. They build their hanging basket-shaped nest inside small caves within the sandstone cliff face.
This is a first for TN.

Hello Chris,
This is the best photo of a Rockwarbler I've seen so far. Excellent sharpness and details in beautiful natural colours against the dark OOF BG. The light on the bird and trunk is beautiful. Very good composition, POV and eye contact.
TFS and regards,
Peter

Hello Chris,
I guess you have to live in the Sydney area, not to mention in Australia to capture this rarity!
This is an excellent capture of a Rockwarbler taken from a great uncluttered lateral POV with nice sharpness and great lighting against a contrasting dark BG.
Thanks, this is great to view!
Cheers,
Ivan

hello Chris,
This cute little Rockwarbler looks so fragile! There something special about this shot. May be the atmosphere created by the beautiful dark background and the bird in the light. Always interesting to read about species which are not often shown on TN.
thanks alot
Kind regards
Anne
