[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tecomanthe speciosa is one of the world's rarest plants. Endemic to The Three Kings Islands off New Zealand's North Cape Where there is a small wild population of about 6 members. The plant has been domesticated and is sold in garden nurseries, and is now becoming more common in northern New Zealand gardens. At the moment it is producing many beautiful large pendulous flowers.
This plant is a vigorous climber/epiphyte. The Photo shows female flowers coming directly from the main climbimg stem. I have the plant growing in my garden where it sprawls through Kanuka and Manuka scrub.A member of the Bignoniaceae family.
The photo was taken in low light due to the Kanuka canopy and cloud cover. Fill flash and increased focus and colour saturation in photoshop.
