[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is our beloved Mount Pirongia as seen from the main street in our little village.I took this as I was passing through this afternoon and decided to post it before resuming my posts of yesterdays jungle trek.
Pirongia last erupted about 1.6 million years ago,and eruptions are known to have occurred some 2.7 million years ago.
Some lava flows from this mountain travelled more than 20 kilometres out to the Kawhia harbour on the west coast. The summit would probably once have been up to 150 metres higher than its present level.
Pirongia forest park now comprises 17,000 hectares of native broadleaf and podocarp (conifer) forest. It is the largest tract of unbroken native forest in the Waikato area and contains at least 58 species of trees,44 different shrub species and 110 types of fern.
(I,personally think there are a lot more than this...mainly because I'm always finding species not though to be in this part of the country).
The tallest known native tree in the country is also on Mount Pirongia.I visited it yesterday, and will later post a photo of it.

Hi Steve, the cone looks a little (only a little) like Rangi, eh? Terrific landscape leading up to the mountain. Beautiful colours with the field of maize or corn(?) growing in the foreground. You will miss this scene when you move. Thank you for posting this.

Hay Steve!

What a beautiful picture Steve. :) Your landscape pictures are really perfect. TFS!

Lucky man, Steve. Such a beautiful view, every day, all year long. I wouldn't be tired of that! I like the diversity and the reunion of so many different mini landscapes together. Your NZ landscapes are conveying peace and the envy of stopping there to enjoy. Did you notice there is a quite big bird flying close to a tree on the right, half way.

Good landscape Steve, I'd push a bit the contrast and ajust the shadows and highlights.
Well done.
TFS.

Excelent view, Steve. Is that Mount still active? Very rich greenery in your area. Must get alot of rain.
Well done on this composition.

Another beautifull landscape from you Steve.
I am glad to know someone who is already in paradise.
Thanks for sharing your Eden with us. Living in the middle of the village of Montreal, I envy you, you know. It is very pleasant to see green space like this during our winter. Here all is grey and white with smog.

Steve, these landscapes are breathtaking. I enjoy looking at your mountains. TFS. Well done.
