Chauna torquata
Vulgar name: Chajá (Argentina), Screamer (English).

It is a bird filogenetically related to ducks, geese and swans, but it differs enough in his anatomy with them. Its bill is pointed and hooky. Although they inhabit zones of pools and marshes, rare time put to the water because its plumage to differences of the ducks does not maintain it dry. Their legs are wide and robust, which confers advantages to him when walking on the aquatic vegetation. They feeds on grass and crawling leaves and plants. Their wings are wide and have each one a spur, that the males in their fights use, since in spite of forming a pair that lasts all its life, they meet in numerous groups at the reproductive time. Are birds noisy that emits an acute shout, that vaguely seems chah - hah, from where its Spanish name comes. The females put of 4 to 6 eggs, that are incubated of 6 to 7 weeks. If they´re capture in wild state usually tolerate well their captivity, but it is not a bird that you can domesticate.

Hi Hernan
Thanks for introducing me to this extraordinary bird.
Unfortunately, the fact that it is a scan does show.
However, it is a good composition, but possibly cropped too closely on the right hand side. The bird has no space to move in to. Another small nit is the plant on the left hand side. It is a pity that it obscured the back portion of the bird.
The DOF is good with a nice OOF BG although the bird is slightly soft in detail.
Anyway, this was a good capture. TFS.
Regards
Loot

Thanks for sharing about the bird. I did not know anything about this kind of bird till today. Photo could use some more space. Beautiful colours.

Beautiful and interesting bird. Quite good quality for a scan. I also feel that some more space is needed around the bird, but that doesn't take out of the beauty of this photo.

Regards, Petru

Hello Hernan, nice capture of this interesting looking bird. Very odd creature!

I think the focus is a little soft and compositionally I would like to see a little more room in front of the bird.

Well done.

Hello Hernan,
Very interesting picture. The quality isn't maybe perfect but not that bad. Picture has very good POV and lighting, very nice colours too.
WELL DONE!
