This particular tree, the "pehuen" is an araucaria tree that grows in the north part of Patagonia. I took this picture in one of my many trips to the southern part of my country, in the argentinian province of Neuquen. This area localy known as "pehuenia" due to this kind of trees, it´s in the borther between Argentina and Chile, in front of the Andes chain. This place has also an historical past. In the shores of this river, the "Pulmarí" river, took place in the 19th century a battle between the primitive argentinian army and the aboriginal habitants, the "mapuches". Nowdays some of the desendents of this original mapuches, still living in patagonia, in both sides, chilean and argentinian, and they still fighting to preserve their culture. For the mapuches, this tree, the pehuen, had an important role in their lifes. They took everything from it, and also its fruit, the "piñóñ", gives them food. There are lots of mapuches tales about this beautiful tree and it became a simbol of this northern area of Patagonia.
(I found this pic in an old album, so I scanned it and apply som PP. I increased a little the contrast and sharpened a little too.) |

Hey Alejandro!
Just magical place. Calm and relax! I need places like that all around!
Alejandro I think you have saved your image with two much compression you can see jpg artefacts around the top of the tree. Nice POV I like the rock formations
