Torrent Duck (Merganetta armata) ssp of the south (M.a.armata). Female with pigeons.
The Torrent Duck lives in the mountain chain of the Andes. He inhabits cold and crystalline rivers of rapid currents in the mountains of America of the South. Your geographical distribution goes from Venezuela up to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. He lives between altitude that go from the 1000 to 4500 meters snm., though one documents him from the level of the sea, and always in cold waters
This this species catalogued on the danger of extinction in some countries. In Argentina it is considered to be vulnerable. Your distribution is scanty, your presence is rare and is used as environmental indicator.
The photography is taken in the area Tronador of the National Park Nahuel Huapi, Patagonia, Argentina; in the middle of a forest of Beeches (Nothofagus sp) and it is a fruit of a patient work and a lot of luck.
