Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata)

ORDER: Passeriformes
FAMILY: Emberizidae
SUB-FAMILY: Cardinalinae

Cardinal is common name of several species of birds, finch crested that distribute themselves in all the American continent.

The males of this species have several tones of red, depending on the subspecies, and a black mask from the eyes to the neck.
The females and the chicks are brown yellowish, with I touch of red in the crest, wings, tail and chest.
It measures about 15 centimeters.

It is a bird of compact plumage, has the back of gray color steel; the chest and the abdomen, white ashy; the throat and the head, red alive, just like the plume of smooth feather in which this one finishes.
A white line separates the red one of the head of the gray of the back.
The peak is almost straight, strong, with the particularitity to have superior maxilar that it excels of the inferior one.
The wings are narrow and pointed and the tail, releases and square.

Moving, agile and vivacious, is very singer.
Its song, in form of chirp or whistles, is strong and very pleasant, and it is resembled the sounds that appear of one flute.

They are in mounts and the zones of shrubby vegetation of the borders of the rivers, streams or lagoons.
Is it single, or in pair or small groups.

It constructs his nest in shrubs, form of glass.
The female puts there up to three eggs, that are whitish or greenish, with little marking and brown spot and purple.
The nests make them with small branches, little roots and strips of crusts and on the inside have them with finer grass, bristles and other materials.

The cardinals do not migrate.
They have a resounding song, that also produces the females, which is unusual in northern singing birds.

It is possible to be listened to them in the first sunny days of the end of winter.
It feeds specially on grains; but he eats fruits, vegetables, insects and until meat.

El only group of cardinals of red head (with the gray and white body) lives in South America.
The male cardinal is easy to identify by his high crest, black throat and the red plumage.

In Argentina, its raising is habitual as domestic bird by its song and beauty.

Ricardo, Like the soft frame edge which carries over into the overall softness you've given your Cardinal. I like the composition for its intimate feel so the branch running through is not obtrusive at all. Very nice one Ricardo!!

les couleurs sont flamboyantes.
Cet oiseau est magnifique, presque irréel.

well done

Salu2.

Beautiful colorful capture here Ricardo. It reminds me of my last post of the Robin. I love the composition and although theres lots of detail it has a softness which I like also. Well done.

WOW this is beautiful. This is one of your bests shots. I like the detail in it and especially that it remains soft as well.

Very well captured and thanks for posting

Your Cardinals are all very beautifull. This on looks very soft. Did you use a noise reduction tool such as NeatImage? Very nice capture and a detailed note too. TFS.

Very nice capture Ricardo, there is an usual soft texture over the picture, did you overdo it a little on Neat Image?

Apart from that lovely colours and composition.

Packed in a great framing, nice bird and colours and I like your colours in your note too, funny work !
