An image of a new species hoverfly, also called in this case Drone fly... I consider that one is a Eristalis (possibly of the Tenax species, that locally reproduces like one fly fish).

Your body is of 13mm. approx.

Species from Eristalis can be found everywhere and many are common garden visitors. A limited number is quite demanding in their habitat preferences and have a restricted occurrence, for example E. cryptarum, which occurs in bogs. The larvae of Eristalis are detritivorus and bacteriophorus filter feeders, living under aquatic or semi-aquatic circumstances, including liquified faeces. Larvae of E. tenax have been reported to occur in the intestinal tract, causing Human Myasis.

Most Eristalis can be easily recognized by species specific characters, for example E. tenax with its hair bands on the eyes and E. similis (=E. pratorum) with its long pale pterostigm.

The coloration of the femora shows large variability and does not present a good differentiating character.
The coloration and the extend of the yellow markings on the abdomen also varies.

Now I see what the fuss was about when you said you were leaving. Excellent macro, a pity the DOF got lost in the flower. Is he stationary or flying? Color and detail is PERFECT. Congratulations on this one!!

Ricardo, Good placement of your subject within the frame with great detail seen! Especially like the details I see in the wing (i.e. veins). My personal preference is to show a bit more overall lightness but this is entirely subjective of course!! Well done!

Wow.. where did you get those fly shots??? Most people would not think twice about swatting them dead the moment they see one. In this picture it seems that the fly's legs got stuck.. great picture!

Very good capture Ricardo, I'm 100% certain that this belongs to Tribe Eristalini and Genus Eristalis, and it probably belongs to subgenus Eoseristalis, and my I think the species is abusivus (I'm learning to ID these flies from a set of keys...thanks for giving me the detail to do so!). It's a great picture the details are fantastic as are the colours. Well done, and thanks for writing such an excellent note.

Do you have another picture of this from a different angle?

Lots of detail, Ricardo. Just love the wings. Great shot and note.
