Psychedelic Eyes

A new species of Hoverfly, THANKS GERDHARD for your identification!!!

Lesser Drone Fly (Eristalinus taeniops)


The most remarkable characteristic is the strange drawings in their eyes... of there the amused chosen title.

Basically its conformation is similar to a Drone Fly of already known in TN, as they are the Eristalis for example.

Its size is of approx 15mm. and as it is appraised in the image, it was making a meticulous washing of its wings, like in the sequence imaged denominated Cleaning Wings (including a version LP).

Ricardo I think this is a Lesser Drone Fly. (Eristalinus taeniops) I did a post on it here.

It's a fantastic capture. The details, composition and BG all adding to make this a winner. Such a nice pose too. Masterpiece! Well done.

WOW, this is a great capture indeed Ricardo. Amazing sharpness and details. With such big eyes it could make a good performence as dublicate for the woolf in the fairy tail about The Little Red Hood.

Great colours and perfect dof but personally I would prefer the most of the space in front of the hoverfly.
