Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle Adult
(Harmonia axyridis)

Specimen of less 10mm. aprox.
This is the Adult of larva published in my anterior image that you can be seen HERE

Note: In the photo, you can be appraised that one of the hard wings (elytre) of the insect is damaged.

Description

Adult Harmonia axyridis beetles are oval and convex in shape, 5 to 8 mm in length.
Their head is straw yellow, antennae and mouthparts are yellow-brown, sometimes tinged with black.
The pronotum is straw yellow with four black spots that are reminiscent of the shape of a W or an M (depending on how the insect is viewed).
These polymorphic beetles have elytra that range from pale yellow-orange to bright red-orange, often with up to 20 black spots, although the spots can be reduced or absent.

The larvae are distinctive when compared with native or previously established coccinellid larvae.
Their elongate, flattened bodies are covered with tubercle and spines, which makes them bristly in appearance.
Mature larvae, which are overall black to dark bluish-gray, exhibit an unbroken longitudinal orange strip down each side of their body.

The pupae are predominantly orange, with minimal black markings (personal observation).
Eggs are bright yellow, laid in clusters of about 20 on the undersides of leaves.

Native Range

The multicolored Asian lady beetle distribution up to its establishment in North America was Asia and Australia, where its prey consists of mostly homopteran insects such as psyllids and scale.
It was widely distributed in Asia, where it is recorded from Formosa, China, Korea, Japan, Manchuria, southern Siberia, and the Ryukyu and Bonin Islands.
There it is viewed as an arboreal species that mostly occurs in orchard and forest habitats.

The multicolored asian lady beetle, is considered as an excellent biocontrol agent of aphids.
It was introduced in Mendoza (Argentina) by the end of the nineties and its presence in Buenos Aires was detected for the first time at the end of 2001.

This predator has some undesiderable characteristics, as it is to displace the populations of native coccinelids and to cause inconveniences to inhabitants since, during autumn-winter, it gets abundantly in houses and buildings, introducing itself in homes and placing on persons and food.

Hi Ricardo
A delightfull little beatle, she even looks a bit oriental to me
The red and green contrasts well
The shadow on the left can be reduced if you use a relector on that side - a piece of cardboard, covered with cooing tinfoil - first crumpled to reduce shine, ill help to get light into that side.
The best is two off flashes, but I know you do not have that system.
Nice note too!

Looks like a corpse for me :-) It has heavy injury on back and legs off line :-) Excellent note and quality of picture. Although system with two flashes sounds very good, sometimes it is good to have got a shadows on picture.

Ricardo, Overall a good shot. The subjects all important head/eyes are lost in shadow though, the result of inadequate illumination.

Very good macro Ricardo.
Another strange bug ;-)
Very good details, colours and composition.
Agree with Callie about a reflector.
Very well done.

Focus a bit soft on the head, using reflectors would be good for those shots.

Nice macro, Ricardo. Brilliant colours and composition.

Good macro Ricardo. Nice colour and detail. Only nit is bthe use of lighting which I know is not always possible.

Interesting post, Ricardo. The ladybird is well presented. I think the focus could be a bit sharper, especially on the wound side. Nice shot none the less.

Nice capture of this interesting specimen Ricardo. Great note.

La cabeza de este precioso insecto, pareceuna carta de ajuste para enfoque, si no lo pillas perfecto, se nota mucho. Por el resto la foto es realmente bonita. En vez de un bicho parece una frutita o baya del bosque :D
