garden snail (Helix aspersa)
The "garden common snail " had in our country an ample geographic dispersion, because when arriving from Europe did not have biological enemies who made difficult their reproduction, initially prospered with facility, soon before the appearance of predators, the application of pesticidas in the field and babocidas in the city, and before the roturationof the ground for seedtime that their nests destroyed, it entered a frank backward movement. However, it is a variety that in the propitious zones of the country, exists in abundance.
SHELL : The snail aspersa has its spherical shell about 20 to 35 mm of stop and 25 to 40 mm in length, of greenish clear or brown color brown with bands in spiral of darker jaspeado color. In them sometimes cross-sectional ribbings can be distinguished that demonstrate the periods of hibernation through which it has passed the unit (it is like the ring of the trees that allows to count their years). The shell also serves like defense before the aggressions of the medio.ambiente (wind and sun) and against the predators. Its composition is in a 98% of mineral salts, fundamentally of calcium carbonate, that the snail must synthesize of the feeding and that in case of needing will delay it its growth. While the young snails have a soft shell, that allows them to continue with its growth, the adult snails form a thickening of the called edge "peristoma" that reinforces it with a ribbing that is a calcareum deposit. This lip is returned outside upwards and, and allows to detect to the adult units apt for the reproduction.
The wild snails live between 3 and 4 years, being able to reproduce generally to the year or year and means, when they arrive at adults and they form peristoma. As we said, the snails are hermafrodites insufficient, reason why they require of another specimen to reproduce. The copula lasts between 10 and 12 hours. During the period of activity every 21 days will do up to 6 connections in 2 months being normal one.

Very interesting capture, Hernan!
You used an ordinary snail to take an extraordinary shot. It really looks translucent and you were able to see it and catch it with your camera. Congratulations,
Mark

El efecto logrado con la ayuda de la luz es realmente hermoso Hernan.
Muy buena nitidez y coloración a pesar del contraluz.
Lástima ese pequeño recorte en la parte inferior de la imagen... no pudiste captarlo en su totalidad?
Bien hecho.
