[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Spanish]
Yesterday Sunday, crossing one of the footpaths of the Reserve Ecólogica Costanera Sur, I found an enormous bumblebee (I consider 5 cm. of size) on a thistle.

I began to portray it of distant spot initially and with the course of the firings, I was approaching more and more until I flee towards an inaccessible site.

Lamentably I did not find information on its exact classification... perhaps is a species of the Bombus sort, although most of which I could see in photographies have bands of colors or colored zones. In this case, he was absolutely black.

I hope can help me with this.

To only the effect to try a correct classification, associate a later image of the insect like WORKSHOP, where the tenuous bands are appraised that do not modify the prevailing black color.

Ce gros Bourdon noir est impressionnant sur cette belle fleur de Cirse. De belles couleurs bien contrastées.
Well done !

A very nice capture.
Excellent colours and nice sharp detail.
I think it is definately a species of Bombus but it's very unusual and one I've never seen, possibly a queen due to it's large size.
A great shot,very well done.

Ricarco, if you look closely at his rump end, you *will* see stripes, although they're hard to separate, being dark grey and black. But take a look ;-) Can't help you with the ID, sorry. We've got some here of a similar shape and build, but they aren't 5 cm (more like 3 cm), and they aren't almost all black.
Capture's nice and sharp with good colours.

Ricardo, nice shot of a rare bee. I have never seen a black one.
Greetings, Jan

He is really getting in there. :) This is a lovely photo. I love the black purple combo. Nice DOF and sharpness. Great work Ricardo.

And black it is! It looks like it stays in a chimney! This shot has great DOF and detail, as well as well balanced colors - the black must have made it difficult. Well taken

Hi Ricardo, this guy looks like a cowboy riding a bull in a rodeo! Just gorgeous. I love the way his nose is stuck into the flower. Very nicely done.

I can't help with the ID either. It's a fantastic shot Riacardo. Good use of the DOF and super detail and colour.

This is wonderful capture! The black bee is a great contrast of colour to the thistle flower.
What makes is even more special is that I have never seen a bee of this colour before! Looking more closely it does appear that the bee possibly has bands of a dark gray on its body... or is the light playing tricks on my eyes?
Thank you for sharing this shot with us!

Likely the Bombus confusus... < extinct in some areas >.

Also wish to add an alarming bit of news about bees! Recent reports on unusually high beekills suggest that perhaps cell phones are to blame.
Are we ignorantly committing Apidae-cide?

Like you I like these humblebees which have tricks regular honeybees do not have.

Excellent PoV here of the bee on this thistle. It shows us so much more than just another photo of another insect... bee, b'fly, bug, what have you... Tfs, Jay
