[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Chaqueo is a practice widely practiced in the tropical area of Bolivia. Every year in the dry season farmers burn the wast grasslands they use for cattle grazing. On the same season the 'burn' part of the 'slash and burn' practice takes place as well.

These fires can burn for day and get out of control. It gets bad enough for airports to close down!

It is believed that burning the land will enrich and fertile it.

The Chaqueo burns every year more and more rain. forests and is a damaging the fauna and air quality.

The image is taken from the air on a flight from Bella Vista and Trinidad.

Hello Shir,
That's a very dramatic image of an ancient practice. I don't recall seeing such an environmental photograph on TN. The photo itself is excellent despite the hardship of photography from an airplane. Thank you for the valueable contribution. I hope Bolivia does not end up becoming another Haiti.

Espectacular vista aérea Shir con perfecta nitidez y colorido que brinda una gran visión de esta habitual práctica.
Me gusta realmente mucho el efecto que genera el fuego y el humo sobre la imagen con excelente efecto lumínico.
Tienes idea aproximada de la altura del vuelo en ese momento?.

This is a very interestng and original post!
You bring up a very serious problem here...but i'm affraid the authorities there don't do much about it...
These fires definately enrich the fertility of the land, but there is no real need for that and the loos in fauna and air is a price way too high to pay...
It's quite sad...but it's a very good picture and post.
