[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This White Woodpecker was a bit to far away for my 300mm lens from where I was standing. But I don’t need always portraits. I hope you like it too.
The White Woodpecker, Melanerpes candidus, is a species of woodpecker (Family Picidae) found in South America. This woodpecker is a native of the grasslands of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Specially fields with trees, palm groves, orchards.
This bird is particularly beneficial because it consumes the irapuá bee, Melipona ruficrus, a pest of citrus growers.
28,5 cm. Black and white. Yellow belly patch (and nape in male)
Voice: high kirr-kirr-kirr in flight.

Hello Peter,
This may not be a portrait, but it is a fine capture of the White Woodpecker nicely composed on a well hacked palm tree trunk. good sharpness for a distant shot and fine blue sky BG.
Well done and TFS!

Hi Peter,
thankyou for sharing this photo... I've never heard of a White Woodpecker... but now I have ;)
Doesn't matter that it's not a portriat; in some ways a wide view of it is even better because it shows its habitat and how big it is to the scale of something such as a tree in this case.
The sky acts as a perfect back-drop.
Nice colours and lighting... I love the slight iridescent colour on its wing.
Overall, a well presented shot with a great technical side and superb picture quality :)
Well done Peter,
Joe

Hello Peter

It seems every post of yours is a new exotic bird I have never seen before.
Another beauty captured in a lovely natural setting.
The blue sky in the BG is brilliant and contrasts the white plumage of this woodpecker.
Nicely done.
TFS

Rob

Hello Peter,
I quite agree with you that every picture need not be a portrait especially when it is something as good as this. This is the first time i am coming across a white woodpecker. Good focus, sharpness and a beautiful blue background.Good colours and contrast.
TFS,
Smitha.

Great catch Peter, don't remember ever seeing this one before on TN..but then, my memory ain't what it used to be ;}
Thanx for the note on this interesting looking species.
Well done.

Hello Peter, indeed there is no need to always post portraits of birds it's good to see them in their environments. Thanks for this great shot.

Hi Peter

Well at least you got it! The composition is very good and the colours too. It looks a very unusual bird and I would not have known of it if you had not posted the shot.
