Every morning a farmer was feeding birds in a feeding trough. A great variety of birds came to this trough. So this Cacique.

Not so colorful as the Golden-winged Cacique, an earlier photo of my here on TN, but this species is also NEW ON TN.

Information collected (difficult to find) from internet and several birdbooks:
The Solitary (Black) Cacique (Cacicus solitarius) is a species of bird in the Icteridae family. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical swamps, and heavily degraded former forest.
23 cm (females); 27 cm (males). All Black.
Behavior:
True to its name, this species is rather solitary and usually alone or in pairs. They are great skulkers in thickets but very territorial and come quickly to imitations of their calls. Forage low and out of sight but occasionally move higher if vegetations is thick. Eat many large arthropods.
Nest a solitary hanging pouch (no colonies), thinner walled than those of other Cacicus; usually fairly low, sometimes over water. Mostly 2 eggs, vinaceous white sparsely dotted and blotched darker.
Voice: a loud ‘kweh-ah, insistently repeated; song varied, eg ‘ewit, ewit, ewit…, then a much diverse warble.

Hi Peter,
We have seen a variety of black birds here on TN lately and this is another good one. Very impressive sharpness and perfectly exposed plumage which is so difficult in black or white subjects. Nice pose you have captured with a precise DOF and from a well chosen POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Peter,

Congratulations for being the first to show this bird on TN. It's so hard to get a good shot of an all black bird but you did a wonderful job with excellent details of his face and plummage. Wonderful background to make him stand out so well.

Hi Peter,

I certainly haven't seen one of these on TN or anywhere else. Nice looking littl bird and you have captured some nice detail in his black plumage, which isn't an easy task.

Peter,
Good job photographic this cute Cacique. I still find it very difficult to get a good image of any birth that is dark brown or black in color. Good composition and good detail on the feather and eyes. Well done.

Hi Peter,
Nice. Will run it past the Jaramillo Icterid monograph later just to be sure.

EDIT: Yes, you are right on the ID. Finally had time to check this one.
