Amazon waterlilies
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photo is shot some 80 km from Manaus. There were wonderful big areas covered with giant amazon waterlilies. I hear they only bloom for just two days. On the first night, the flower opens, attracting beetles with its scent, pure white colour and warmth (the flower actually heats up). Then in the evening the flower closes, trapping the beetles inside but providing them with food. The color will gradually changes from white to pink to purple. Unfortunately I wasn't around during the blooming time. But they were still spetacular.

Great to see one of these amazing lilies in the wild, have only seen the famous one in Kew gardens where it has its own special greenhouse. the only thing extra I would of liked would of been to see all the edges of one pad, it feels a litle cramped cropped as it is.

I wish I had been there and seen those gigantic Water Lilies.
Unfortunately I did not came 80 km from Manaus during my short stay in Amazonas. Very good photo. I have to search for a botanical tour next time, otherwise the guides do not tell anything about plants and such.
