[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata) is a large duck which is native to Mexico, Central and South America. A small wild population reaches into the US in the lower Rio Grande River basin in Texas. There also are feral breeding populations in North America in and around public parks in nearly every state of the USA and in the Canadian provinces; feral populations also exist in Europe. Although the Muscovy Duck is a tropical bird, it adapts to icy and snowy conditions down to –12°C (10°F) and below without ill effects.

hello Lucas
a very good portrait of this goose with a strange head
superb sharpness with a lot of fine details
Great colors
I lik this shot very much

Hi Lucas,

Not a Goose. Certainly the ugliest anatid around.

This is a domesticated Cairina moschata (Muscovy Duck). The wild-types of this species are much less ugly, have less carunculation (all of that stuff on the head), and are essentially all black. When you see a white one, or white plus black combinations in this duck, it means that it is domesticated.

Hello Lucas,
Very sharp & detailed, excellent exposure, DOF, and color.
The soft BG color works well, nice POV & comp.
Great model too :)

Howard
