This is a Lavadeira (Masked Water-Tyrant, Fluvicola nengeta). This is part of a bird series I captured in Praia do Forte, Bahia state last December. A fantastic place with birds everywhere. This little Tyrant was taking care of the recent born chicks. I stood a few meters observing the mom hunting bugs to the kids and coming back to feed them. Beautiful scene I won't forget.
Something about:
There are two populations of the Masked Water-tyrant separated by thousands of kilometres. One is in eastern Brazil from Maranhão to São Paulo and the other is on the Pacific coast of Ecuador and north-west Peru.
It is mostly white with the "mask" being a black stripe through the eye and it has brownish-black wings and tail which has a broad white tip. The back is pale grey.
It is common in marshes and open scrubby areas near water and is sometimes found in gardens. |
