This is a Martim-Pescador-Pequeno (Green Kingfisher, Chloroceryle americana) I also captured at Praia do Forte. There are many species of kingfishers, and I believe all are very interesting birds. They are always staring at the water surface looking for lunch.
Something about it:
The Green Kingfisher is distributed from Texas through Central and South America as far as central Argentina. It is found in a variety of stream, lake and river habitats as well as on coastal sites.
It is like a miniature Amazon Kingfisher Chloroceryle amazona though I find it difficult to judge the size when the bird is seen in isolation. Look for the rows of white spots on the wings which are lacking on the Amazon Kingfisher and the double green breast band in the female as opposed to the single of the female Amazon Kingfisher.
The male has a broad chestnut breast band with some green spots down the flanks while the female, as seen in photos 2, 3 and 5, has two bands of green spots. These are usually illustrated as being on a white background as in photo 5 but the individual in photos 2 and 3 has a buffy-orange colouring. |

Wonderful composition, great colours and nice POV. Lovely pose. My only very slight niggle is the branch in the top corner. I would clone it out to avoid distractions. Wonderful shot though

Já ví que está fazendo sair fumaça desta bazooca! E por falar nisso, comprei um treco hoje para te acompanhar na caça dos pássaros! Nada especial, mas espero que funcione...
Este tal de martin é um dos meus favoritos! Acho o seu cabeção muito legal com aquele topetaço sempre penteado! O céu aqui está super limpo e os galhos secos compõe bem. Só acho que ficou com preguiça de apagar aquele raminho desfocado no alto esquerdo. Sem problemas, entretanto! Belíssima caça! Vai ter muita coisa para me ensinar nesta lida...
