In the tree-garden behind the small restaurant in Casimiro de Abreu I find more and more Tanagers. All ready for their daily allowance of fruit. This-one was easy to identify.

The Brazilian Tanager (Ramphocelus bresilius) is a species of bird in the Thraupidae family. It is found in Argentina and Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest. Endemic.
19 cm. Male bright red with black wings and tail (also mantle in southern race). Female and immature brownish, the latter gets increasing amounts of red with age.
Voice a constant, spaced jep or jip, diagnostic of species. Usually alone or in loose family groups.

Hello Peter very well composed, strong contrasty bird and soft background provides a "pop" factor, good sharp catchlight and colours are really amazing, tfs rgds Necip.
