Adult giant swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes), probably an female. Thanks to Miles Herbert (captive light) I have a name to this butterfly.

The giant swallowtail is widely distributed throughout the American continent. Its range extends from southern New England across the northern Great Lakes states, into Ontario, through the southern portions of the Central Plains to the Rocky Mountains. The species ranges southward to Florida and the Caribbean, into the southwestern United States, and on through Mexico to Central and South America, where I found this one.

I took this picture in a very shadowed place inside the bush and at late afternoon, so I used the flash. I also pp it to brake a little bit of the flash lights and I´ve cropped.

Since it is a large butterfly with around 12 to 13 centimeters, I could capture it without any macro or close up lens, just getting close as possible.

Regards,
Zeca

abraços;
Taba

Hello Jose,
This is one of the most orgiginal close-up of a swallowtail I have seen so far :-) I like the angle in which you took this picture, those great details and bright colors. It is interesting that the main point here is its body instead of its wings. This is very well done with excellent composition. Thanks!
Claudine

Hi Jose

Hello Jose,
Nice close up and original pov. Details are well shown with vivid colors. Very well done.
