[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
"In the old age black was not counted fair,/Or if it were, it bore not beauty’s name;/But now is black beauty’s successive heir (...).//Sweet beauty hath no name, no holy bower".

This is an excerpt of Sonnet 127, by William Shakespeare.
_____

Shooting this was a hard job. The butterfly, even when on the flower, flaps its wings too quickly. Besides, it remains just for two or three seconds on each flower. Finally, the weather was scorching.

Thus, in order to “freeze” the wings, I would have to use a high speed. But due to the color of the butterfly, even f/2.8 was causing a somewhat dark butterfly. In this picture, I had to apply some Levels and Shadow/Highlight to add some lighting.

No flash was used.

The butterfly is a big one; its wingspan has approximately 12 centimeters.

Well done on this composition. Excelent view of this beauty.
That's what nature is all about, no time for the subject to sit. Gota be fast with the cam, or else.

Oh yes, photographer life is very hard Livio :-) Insects are much too fast and impatient ;-) Another great picture, and as always what I like most in your photos is fabulous colours and sunny light. Superb!

Hi Livio;
As I read you had many odds while you take the picture but you've done it very well. Only the backlight a bit distracting but still well.
Thanks for sending.

What a beautiful butterfly shot. The colours are lovely and the contrast between the butterfly and flower against the background is perfect. Well done.

A nice capture of this butterfly.
I've seen this species when I was at the Dom rep recently. They are fast movers and beat there wings real fast.
I tried to capture one but failed.
Very nice colours and excellent composition.
Well done.

Great shot Livio, (do you carry this flower around with you? LOL), great colours, details and background.
Good note, thanks for sharing.

Excellent colours, very good capture and very good composition

I'm impressed by such a quality, Livio. Colors are beautiful and the sharpness is amazing. DOF is exactly what you needed. A very good macro, even with a big butterfly :-), as you mentionned.

Hi Livio, lovely back-lit butterfly. Great composition and colours. Very well done.

Hi Livio, this is nicely positioned in the frame with good perspective and lovely bold colours. Very nicely done.

A great job to handle the bright sunlight. I like how it is highlighting his wing tips. You got good DOF for f2.8, keeping your subject sharp. Nice Work!
