In the Pantanal the Green-winged Macaw (Ara chloroptera) also nests in trunk cavities and fights for them against other birds. The manduvi palm (sterculia apetala) trunk is far and away the favorite. It has a soft kernel that is easily hollowed when branches drop off, or are broken by woodpeckers, or fungi, termites or bacteria.
The Green-winged Macaw feeds on various fruit.
In the photo this Macaw was digging his cavity. |

Hi Peter,
Wonderful shot of this beautiful Macaw with such bright colours and sharpness on its plumage. Superb lighting and you have captured a fine pose set againt the tree trunk as BG. The blue sky looks charming here. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Excellent colors, pov and composition.
I like saturation and contrast too.
