O pavão já foi considerado um animal sagrado na Índia. Quem matasse um pavão seria condenado à morte. Hoje esse costume já não existe , mas dezenas de pavões andam ainda livremente por certos templos hindus e são alimentados pelos sacerdotes.
O pavão prefere viver em árvores. À tarde, sobe numa árvore, de galho em galho, até chegar ao topo, onde passa a noite. Desce ao amanhecer.
Se ameaçado, foge. Só voa depois de correr por certa distância. Seu vôo é ruidoso e desajeitado. |
