[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In October I placed a photo of a Black-collared Hawk on a pole of a fence. I thought this was the juvenile.
But our friend Steve (Cuckooroller) don't agree with my ID.
It was very difficult to find the right name. But now I agree with Steve: It's the juvenile of a White-tailed Hawk.

The White-tailed Hawk, (Buteo albicaudatus), is a large bird of prey found in tropical or sub-tropical environments.

Distribution and habitat
The White-tailed Hawk could be found anywhere from southern Texas to Central Argentina as well as many Caribbean Islands, although mostly southern. For habitats it prefers open or semi-open regions where there are few trees to hinder its flight.
Size and description
Averaging 62 cm in length with a wing span of around 1.2 m, the White-tailed Hawk is a large, stocky creature. Adult birds are gray above but white below, with a narrow black band on its short, white tail. Immature birds are some what darker than adults and have grey tails.
Diet
The diet of the White-tailed Hawk varies with its environment. Rabbits make up the majority of the hawk’s diet in southern Texas while lizards are the preferred prey in the Dutch West Indies. Other animals such as cotton rats, snakes, frogs, insects, and birds like quails are also eaten. The White-tailed hawk is known to feed on carrion and chickens when no other source of food is available.
Breeding
Breeding pairs of White-tailed Hawk build nests out of freshly broken twigs and cushion them with dried grasses and other fine materials. White-tailed Hawks do not abandon their nests, which could reach sizes of up to three-feet across. Between one to three eggs are laid per year.

Hallo Peter
Another technique I would like to accomplish one day. I admire the photographers that are able to take a successful bird in flight photo. Absolutely stunning! This Hawk's feathers looks as if they are woven. The detail is remarkable. The clear blue sky is a lovely background for this dark coloured bird. It is a majestic bird with massive and impressive feathers. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Hallo Peter,

Mooi plaatje! De doortekening aan de onderkant van de vleugels is schitterend. Heb deze soort nog nooit gezien.
De egaal blauwe achtergrond past mooi bij het geheel.

groet,
Zeno.

Hello Peter,
Very nice capture the Hawk fits perfectly against the blue sky
Very nice details and composition.. Well done

Everton

Hi Peter,
Bookmarking because I don't have the time to do the ID. I can say that it is not a juvenile B. nigricollis, which has a white throat and an overall color scheme of dirty white and buff markings, etc., not this white with bluish-black markings.

Will come back for this.

EDIT: Final ID - Buteo albicaudatus (White-tailed Hawk), a juvenile.

Hello Peter
I am a big fan of raptors and have had little success in capturing them to the level you have here..You have got a lovely view with fantastic markings.
