Firstly, I need to tell you this is not the original background. It was a dull day with a monotonous sky. In order to check the original sky, please, refer to the workshop. If you think I shouldn't have changed the original background, please, feel free to tell me.

It's a "coruja-do-campo" (Speotyto cunicularia). In English, burrowing owl. They usually build their nests by digging holes. They can be found almost all over Brazil, feed on insects and have nocturnal and diurnal habits.
_____

Below, some beliefs about owls, extracted from www.owlpages.com/articles.php?section=Owl+Mythology&title=World .

Afghanistan: the Owl gave Man flint and iron to make fire - in exchange, Man gave the Owl his feathers.

Australia: Aborigines believe bats represent the souls of men and Owls the souls of women. Owls are therefore sacred, because your sister is an Owl - and the Owl is your sister.

Brittany: an Owl seen on the way to the harvest is the sign of a good yield.

Cameroom: too evil to name, the Owl is known only as "the bird that makes you afraid".

France: when a pregnant woman hears an Owl it is an omen that her child will be a girl.

Germany: if an Owl hoots as a child is born, the infant will have an unhappy life.
"A charm against the terrible consequences of being bitten by a mad dog was to carry the heart and right foot of an Owl under the left armpit." (Encyclopedia of Superstitions)

Ireland: An Owl that enters the house must be killed at once, for if it flies away it will take the luck of the house with it.

Israel: in Hebrew lore the Owl represents blindness and desolation and is unclean.

Jamaica: to ward off the Owl's bad luck, cry "Salt and pepper for your mammy".

Japan: among the Ainu people the Eagle Owl is revered as a messenger of the gods or a divine ancestor. They would drink a toast to the Eagle Owl before a hunting expedition. The Screech Owl warns against danger. Though they think the Barn Owl and Horned Owl are demonic. They would nail wooden images of owls to their houses in times of famine or pestilence.

Mexico: the Owl makes the cold North wind (the gentle South wind is made by the butterfly). The Little Owl was called "messenger of the lord of the land of the dead", and flew between the land of the living and the dead.

Peru: boiled Owl is said to be a strong medicine.

Poland: Polish folklore links Owls with death. Girls who die unmarried turn into doves; girls who are married when they die turn into Owls.
An owl cry heard in or near a home usually meant impending death, sickness, or other misfortune.
An old story tells how the Owl does not come out at during the day because it is too beautiful, and would be mobbed by other, jealous birds.

This pleases to me how you seized in flight bird.
Picture a bit for dark and not clear, ale it gave oneself to improve this :)

Good catch.

Great photo, well framed. I don't mind the blue sky. I don't like the other WS though, the wings don't look right. TFS

Lovely shot Livio, i'm glad you have enhanced the sky, i would have done the same. Great pose with the owl looking towards you.
Good note too!
TFS.

A very fine capture of Owl in-flight Livio. I love the freeze of the down-wing and very neat composition. There is a few little issues but all in all a very good capture. 7/10 Excellent work.

Hi Livio
Thanks for being honest about the touch-up. The result is excellent and it could have been real. I like his expression and the position of the wing feathers. Well composed off-centre.
Regards Toni

Hi Livio,
Evidently, this is a great capture, and I think you did very well in enhancing the background a bit. The owl looking on the left captures really the attention. Amazing wings position too. But, IMHO, the subject lacks of punch. I did a WS for you to show what I mean.

Buraqueira... uma foto rara, logicamente quando você "pegou" voando. Muito bonita foto, com detalhes, nitidez e realmente a composição.

Hello Livio,
I'm pondering about your post processing on the sky. The original image is a very strong one already and in your "improved" version, I lack the sunlight that should fall on the owl. There should at least be some highlights with a sky like that. Somehow the owl doesn't match with the sky in your altered version. The image itself is very skillful, you've pressed the shutter at exactly the right moment! Great image to watch (goes for both versions). Best regards, Mike

You have something with that owls, arent you? Real cool picture, a bit soft, but eah, who could be nagging about that? Are they easy to approuch in Brasil? Well done!

HI Livio,
Great timing!
I like both images but prefere the original on the white BG. I think the lighting on the owl suits more the original. I think there would have been more contrasts and highlights if the bird were flying in bright sunlight.
Great shot and excellent post processing.
:)

Great capture Livio! I like the pose of the bird with the details of the wings. Good colors and nice POV. Thanks for sharing!

Whatever you did to the sky, it has come out well Livio. The owl looks like he is sitting in mid-air. Good capture Livio, maybe the owl could be a tad sharper, but anyone who can catch a bird in flight gets top points from me. So well done.

I wish I could take photos like this one... Absolutelly great Livio! Perfect moment and perfect pose. Blue sky is nice BG for this cute bird. Owl's big eyes are just amazing!

Hi Livio

Congrats! This is a magnificent shot. Excellent blue BG. Wonderful subject very well captured mid-flight. Good light, sharpness and clarity. Well done. TFS.

Simply a fantastic image Livio.
Changing the sky colour was a great idea.
I think that the owl could have done with a bit more saturation and I show you what I mean in the my workshop. Hope you don't mind, Chris.
