Red-breasted toucan (Ramphastos dicolorus)

The Red-breasted toucan is one of the smaller black toucans, weighing 12-13 ounces (.34-.37 kg). The 4 inch (10 cm) long beak is the shortest of the large toucans. Their common name stems from the large area of red feathers that are actually on the abdomen, with the breast being more orange in color. This species is often called the Green-billed toucan because of the green bill.

For my french speaking fellows all the complete information about this bird can be found on oiseaux.net

I am especially proud of this picture because I saw three wildlife toucans and was able to get a decent shot despite the fact that we had to stop the car and I had to quickly put the zoom on. I was able to get 2 shots (actually they were 2 toucans, but one flew off before I took my first shot). So, only after 2 hours in Iguaçu Falls, I saw the bird that made my trip worth.

Stunning portrait of the toucan, Stephan. It is so hard to take a good picture of these birds in the wild. You did a great job of capturing this one with sharp details and excellent light and composition. Well done and TFS. : )

Simply beautiful, I understand you completely and I well know the feeling, regardless its a penguin looking at a mountain or the sight of a lonely ostrich in the desert I know that feelings "it was all worth it even just for this moment".

good to see this maginificient bird in its natural habitat. you managed to get a very good exposure too! well done! TFS!
